Page 01: Introduction
"Two persons are together.
Each of them has a dollar in his pocket. They exchange dollars. They carry
on. In their pockets they have got a dollar each. Two persons are together.
In their heads they both have an idea. They exchange ideas and they greet
each other. Then they go ahead, with two ideas in their minds" (Thomas
Jefferson).
This saying, even if written
a couple of centuries ago, can be applied today to the spirit, necessity
and the importance of exchanging ideas - indeed, to the whole concept of
communication. It does not matter whether this communication is done face
to face, or via the radio, phone or the Internet. In the end, and by any
means used the exchange of information will enrich every person.
Of this particular concept,
I want to analyse only one of the several possible points of view: that
of the economic employment available from this endless flow of information.
In particular I have decided to concentrate my analysis on the new information
and communication technologies (ICT) as communicative means.
